NYC Bakery Zabar’s Collaborates With Coach for Upscale (and Expensive) Branded Merch

We’ve got another example of a restaurant teaming up with a luxury brand to create some very pricy promotional products. This time it’s Zabar’s, the much celebrated bakery in New York City, collaborating with Coach, who needs on introduction, for a line of branded merchandise.

The line includes a sweater that retails for $495, a T-shirt for $150 and a Coach “Cashin Carry” leather tote for $550. All of the products feature the Zabar’s logo and bagel with a bite taken out of it.

New Yorkers love to hype up their city, whether it’s the ubiquitous “NY” logo used by the Yankees or creating TV shows where “New York City is kind of a character of its own.”

And for a city known for its fashion and food, this makes sense as a partnership. There are no doubt people who are willing to shell out a bit more money for Zabar’s branded products since they come from Coach, rather than your run-of-the-mill cotton tote.

A Coach spokesperson said that the line was inspired by people who used Zabar’s tote bags already, but the company wanted to elevate it a little. It’s part of a collection Coach calls the “Spring 2022 NYC Institutions” collection.

Last year, the bakery collaborated with Vans for a special edition sneaker, too.

And Zabar’s has been fielding requests for the products.

“I thought it was gonna be less, but I’m not unhappy,” Zabar’s general manager Scott Goldshine told the New York Post. “We know food and Coach knows their business. They know what they can reasonably sell something for.”

Zabar’s is joining companies like A&W that want to give customers a little more bang for a little more buck with luxury products rather than standard and more readily available drops. In cases like these, it’s all about exclusivity and perceived value, and a capsule collection of high-end products with strong brand recognition will accomplish that goal.
